The Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA), in partnership with Jhpiego, is seeking qualified Ethiopian midwifery instructors and preceptors for the position of Midwifery Faculty.


Position: Midwifery Faculty

Number of Positions: 2
Grade: 10
Department/Project: MCGL PSE Project
Location: Kigali, Rwanda
Duration: 3-6 months (starting January 2025)
Reports To: Chief of Party
Supervises: Faculty and Clinical Preceptors


About the Job

Jhpiego, with funding from USAID under the MCGL HRH Project, is supporting the Rwandan government to improve pre-service education for midwives, nurses, and anesthetists. The project focuses on increasing the number and enhancing the quality of Human Resources for Health (HRH) to meet Rwanda’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Faculty will provide Technical and Capacity Development Assistance (TCDA) to faculty and clinical preceptors at the East African College and Institut Catholique de Kabgayi, contributing to curriculum strengthening, teaching, and mentoring.


Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and implement teaching plans.
  • Deliver didactic learning in classrooms.
  • Facilitate and supervise learning in clinical skills labs, practice sites, and community outreach locations.
  • Design and conduct student assessments (knowledge, skills, and attitude).
  • Monitor teaching outcomes and adjust methods based on feedback.
  • Participate in curriculum and module review and development.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Midwifery (Clinical Midwife, Midwifery Education, or Maternity and Reproductive Health).
  • At least 5 years of experience as teaching faculty in classroom, skills lab, and clinical environments.
  • Clinically active and proficient in clinical competencies.
  • Training in teaching, learning, and assessment methods.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Membership in the Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA).
