The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) is the country’s central bank, responsible for designing and implementing monetary policy and financial sector development strategies to ensure macroeconomic stability and sustainable economic growth. Established in 1943 as the State Bank of Ethiopia, it was transformed into the National Bank of Ethiopia in 1963 when its commercial and central banking operations were separated. The Bank’s headquarters is in Addis Ababa, and its current Governor is H.E. Mamo Esemelealem Miheretu.
1. Financial Management Specialist
Job Summary: The Financial Management Specialist (FMS) will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of the Financial Sector Strengthening Project (FSSP), ensuring robust financial management practices, and coordinating with relevant implementing entities.
Required Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
- 1st degree or above in Accounting, Accounting & Finance, Banking & Finance, or related fields.
- Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in a major company, government, or non-government institution.
- At least 4 years of experience managing World Bank-funded projects/programs.
- Knowledge of the World Bank’s Client Connection system.
- Chartered Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly in presenting financial analyses.
- Strong proficiency in electronic spreadsheets and database management.
- Fluency in English and Amharic.
- High personal integrity and ability to work under pressure.

2. Procurement Specialist
Job Summary: The Procurement Specialist will oversee procurement activities under the FSSP, coordinating procurement management for NBE, CBE, and DBE while ensuring compliance with World Bank guidelines.
Required Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
- 1st degree or above in Economics, Management, Accounting, Business Administration, Procurement & Supply Management, or related fields.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience, including at least 5 years in senior procurement management roles, preferably in World Bank-financed projects.
- Strong knowledge of World Bank procurement guidelines and Ethiopian government procurement procedures.
- Experience in conducting training and capacity-building initiatives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Amharic.
- Strong analytical and report-writing skills.

3. Manager, Project Implementation Unit
Job Summary: The PIU Manager will lead the implementation of the Financial Sector Strengthening Project (FSSP), oversee daily operations, and coordinate with stakeholders for effective project execution.
Required Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
- 1st degree or above in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Management, or related fields.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience managing projects of similar scope and complexity, preferably World Bank-funded or donor-funded projects.
- Proven experience coordinating with government agencies, financial institutions, and development partners.
- Strong leadership and management skills in multicultural and interdisciplinary settings.
- Excellent analytical skills in economics and financial development.
- Familiarity with Ethiopia’s banking sector policies and regulations.
- Strong interpersonal, networking, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in project management tools and IT applications.
- Fluency in English and Amharic.
