Junior Microbiologist

Job Summary/Main Purpose:
Under the direct supervision of the microbiology section head, the Junior Microbiologist prepares media, sterilizes equipment, samples finished products, raw materials, excipients, and water for further analysis as per approved written procedures. They also conduct environmental monitoring tests, decontaminate used utensils, and ensure environmentally responsible disposal.
Main Responsibilities:
- Collects and stores samples of raw materials, finished products, stability study products, and water in sterile containers with aseptic precautions according to SOPs.
- Prepares bacteriological culture media and sample containers in accordance with SOPs for microbiological tests.
- Performs sterilization of media, glassware, equipment, and utensils.
- Carries out environmental monitoring of airborne microbial count, surface analysis, and microbiological hand tests of production rooms and microbiological laboratories.
- In consultation with the microbiology section head, receives incoming notices and plans sampling.
- Maintains the working environment’s hygiene and cleanliness.
- Follows the laboratory’s safety rules and regulations.
- Performs verification and maintains records of all laboratory instruments requiring regular verification.
- Assists senior analysts with sample preparation for microbiological testing.
- Decontaminates discarded culture containers, equipment, and utensils.
- Follows procedures for disposing of media and cultures after decontaminating in an environmentally friendly manner.
- Participates in the investigation of microbiological test failures (OOS) to determine the root cause.
- Participates in product and process validation by collecting samples and conducting necessary tests.
- Ensures that laboratory instruments and equipment are turned off before leaving the laboratory and/or when not in use.
- Reports any damage to glassware, equipment, or instruments to the Microbiology section head.
- Submits microbiological test results to the head of the microbiology section for review or approval.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Microbiology section head.
Job Requirements (Education and Work Experience):
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biology.
- Work Experience: Zero years of work experience (fresh graduates are encouraged to apply).
