This role offers a significant opportunity to contribute to World Vision’s advocacy efforts by supporting engagement with the African Union (AU) and related external partners. The intern will play a key role in monitoring AU activities, facilitating communication, conducting research, and providing essential administrative support.

About the Job – Major Responsibilities:

  • AU Engagements and Reporting:
    • Monitor and report on various AU engagements and events relevant to the AU Liaison Office (AULO).
    • Schedule meetings, send agendas, and take meeting notes for AULO-organized or attended meetings.
    • Update event tracker and partners contact list.
    • File and organize AULO Advocacy documents in Box.
    • Draft quarterly engagement reports, including people and children reached, and policy changes.
    • Update key AU events and moments in line with the AU calendar.
  • Research and Analysis:
    • Draft 4 policy briefs or other papers/articles (one per quarter).
    • Update the AULO statistics table quarterly.
  • Networking and External Engagement:
    • Participate and learn from monthly Working Groups (e.g., Regional Protection WG, Regional GBV WG, Inter-Agency (IAWG) Working Group – Advocacy and Communications).
  • Administrative Support, Planning and Reporting:
    • Support the drafting and monitoring of budget, agenda, and logistics (where necessary).
    • Provide support for external meetings, workshops, launches, conferences, or forums.
    • Document relevant materials on a shared drive.
    • Ensure the office is clean at all times (supervise office cleaners).
    • Ensure visitors are well received and all follow-ups documented.
  • Communication:
    • Support Regions and Countries in identifying opportunities for child and youth engagement.
    • Update and manage AULO social media platforms by posting relevant events and tracking WV mentions (especially on Twitter).
    • Support children’s participation in AULO Advocacy events in line with child safeguarding principles.

About You – Knowledge/Qualifications for the Role:

  • Required Professional Experience:
    • Masters-level education experience in advocacy, external engagement, campaigns, or policy analysis work in developing countries.
    • Knowledge of Child Rights, including the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child or the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
    • Experience planning and organizing workshops or forums for participants in multiple countries.
    • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills, particularly in a cross-cultural environment.
    • Planning and organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple activities.
    • Research experience, especially in policy and advocacy.
    • Understanding of humanitarian and fragile contexts.
    • Good understanding of the AU will be an added value.
  • Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification:
    • Master’s degree in social sciences, communication, public policy, management, or law.
    • Training certificate on advocacy, child rights, and policy influence (an added advantage).
  • Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications:
    • Capabilities in achieving, thinking, self-managing, relational, networking and collaboration, and humanitarian diplomacy.
