United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Vacancy Announcement


UNFPA is inviting qualified and competent applicants to apply for the following position:


1. Intern – Human Resources

  • Location: Addis Ababa
  • Position Type: Internship

Skill and Educational Background:

  • Be enrolled in a first university degree programme in HR/IT/Finance/Management and have completed one full academic year, or
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme or higher), or
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree as defined above, and if selected, must start the internship within one year of graduation, or
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee programme and undertake the internship as part of this programme.

Other Eligibility Requirements:

  • Demonstrate an interest in the field of Human Resources (HR).
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to adapt to new environments and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.

Your Experiences:

  • Some experience working with development agencies, including volunteer work.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of other languages is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills.
  • Initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work harmoniously with staff from diverse national and cultural backgrounds.

Learning Elements:

Upon completion of the internship, interns will gain the following:

  • Increased understanding of UNFPA and its Operations Division.
  • Understanding of UNFPA’s mandate and policies, including regional setup.
  • Insights into programme design, delivery mechanisms, and support communications.
  • Experience in working with UN procedures and coordination mechanisms.
  • Development of networking and teamwork skills in a multicultural setting.
  • Experience in writing substantive documents.

Financial Aspects:

  • Interns do not receive a salary or remuneration.
  • A stipend may be provided to help cover daily expenses, depending on financial support from institutions or programs such as universities, governments, or scholarships.
  • Interns are required to have medical insurance during the internship, and proof of insurance must be submitted before starting.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required.
